Modern Renders provide a low maintenance solution to external facades on both commercial and residential properties, They are low maintenance but not maintenance free as some are led to believe.
It is widely recommended that your Rendered building is cleaned annually with low pressure and a biodegradable detergent by most manufacturers, However this simply does not happen due to a number of reasons.
Poor maintenance advice, misguided instructions and even budget constraints.
Once your render has been exposed to the elements the growth of algae quickly takes hold and the building starts to show discolouration normally in the form of dark red, green and black patches.
The patches which are in-fact algae are commonly caused due to weather and once the substrate has algae growth painting over it or pressure washing it to then paint over the surface will not kill the algae or its spores.
Render should be cleaned by low pressure (soft washing) and/or steam to ensure no damage occurs to the surface, the process is more closely resembles a pest control application.
